Cohesive Visuals

Created by the brilliant multidisciplinary artist Melanie Manos, Visualizing Women’s Work (VWW) is a research based visual art project, addressing gendered public monuments (U.S.), and the historical erasure/invisibility of women in the public material landscape.
I came aboard the project in 2019, working with Melanie to develop a cohesive visual identity for the project. From the beginning, VWW has been purposefully open-ended, and continues to take multiple forms, such as live events, digital and print media, Social media campaigns, and a forthcoming interactive website. A cohesive brand has ensured that these many directions have always felt like part of a whole.
In the summer of 2021, the project is expanding once again, into a massive open online course (MOOC), available through Future Learn, in partnership with the University of Michigan Center for Academic Innovation.

Let's Make a MOOC

It turns out, turning a research project into an open online class is no simple undertaking. Thankfully we were in good hands with the University’s Center for Academic Innovation. Under their guidance, Melanie developed a curriculum that starts with art-centered visual literacy before exploring the use of art for social justice. Alongside another designer, Larrea Young, I advised on design specific content, researched and wrote articles and scripts, and created visual material that leveraged the VWW brand. I even made it to the other side of the camera to discuss this design process– but you gotta take the class to see that.
